There's a huge focus on health these days, but that doesn't mean you can't indulge a little once in a while. At The Cakery, a pop-up healthy cafe and bakery at ifc until July 31, you can focus on your body without worrying about giving up taste. Founder Shirley Kwok shares what’s in a few of The Cakery's best recipes, and why exactly they're so good for you.


Ketogenic Recipes

"A ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that can help you burn fat more effectively," explains Kwok. "We want to provide low-carb snack solutions with nutrient-dense ingredients that fuel your body. And eating right, regardless of dietary preferences, can be difficult when life gets busy. That's why we have created a range of keto-friendly, no-sugar-added sweet treats packed with quality ingredients. They taste so good you'll feel like you're cheating."


Kickin' Keto 

Gluten-free, sugar-free, low-carb, keto-friendly chocolate cupcake with avocado frosting.

Ingredients: Almond flour, erythritol, cocoa powder, baking powder, coconut oil, unsalted butter, egg, vanilla extract, almond milk, avocado, unsweetened chocolate.

Each regular cupcake contains only 12.2g of carbs and 1.1g of sugar.


Keto Cheesecake

Gluten-free, sugar-free, low-carb, keto-friendly chocolate cheesecake

Ingredients: Coconut flour, almond flour, unsalted butter, erythritol, cream cheese, crème fraiche, gelatin sheets, whipping cream, cocoa powder

A four-inch cake (net weight: 479g)  serves around four to five people, while the six-inch cake (net weight: 756g) serves six to eight

Each 100 grams of cake contains 15.07g of carbs and 2.7g of sugar


Vegan Mushroom Burger

"Our irresistible vegan portabello and honshimeji mushroom burgeris slathered in a house blend vegan cheese," says Kwok. "They are so moist, tender and full of flavour that even meat lovers would enjoy them.  Moreover, the pickled beetroot adds a tartness to the overall flavour. Mushrooms are packed with nutritional value - they're low in calories, and are great sources of fibre and protein, so good for those on plant-based diets. They also provide many important nutrients, including B vitamins, selenium, potassium, copper, and vitamin D. 


Superfood Lattes

 "Not only are they pleasing to the eye, superfoods are nutrient powerhouses packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to give your body the boost it needs. In latte form, they taste amazing! Vegan versions are available. We offer oat milk, almond milk and soy milk," says Kwok.


Tumeric Latte

Turmeric helps improve digestion, reduce inflammation and combat viral and bacterical infections. 

Beetroot Latte

High in antioxidants.


Matcha Latte

High in antioxidants, helps fight free radicals in your body caused by the sun, pollution and stress, and prevents premature ageing, heart disease and cancer. 


Blue Spirulina Latte

Blue Spirulina is a blue-green-algae which grows in ponds, lakes and alkaline waterways. It is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, carotenoids and antioxidants. Health benefits include removing heavy metals and toxins, aiding in weight loss, boosting energy and performance and improving digestion and bowel health.


Taro Black Gojiberry Latte

Black goji berries have been used extensively in Chinese medicine to treat heart disease, hypertension, abnormal menstruation and menopause. Compared to the common red goji berry, they are much higher in nutritional value.
